Before. Empty for 6 years since 2014
After. Open for Business End July 2021
It has just been over one year since we moved into the new shop, and I thought you would like to know how it is going.
As in all shops, it is constantly evolving to go to make it work better for our customers when new products arrive. We have spoken to you and heard that you would like to know what to expect when you first visit so I thought it helpful to put some things down, so you know the basic shop organisation and how it works.
Location
The shop is located at 81 Mill Street in Macclesfield and is opposite the
mural of Ian Curtis just outside the main shopping area. This is a big advantage as there is easy parking in Duke Street Car Park for Drivers nearby with easy access from the lower exit of the bus station. If you come by train, then it should just be a 10-minute walk
Access
The shop is accessible via a ramp that we created after realising that the step in our old shop caused difficulties for many people. We also removed an internal step at the rear of the shop to ensure the ground floor is all at one level. This means that you should be able to get to all things on this level easily.
Shop Layout
The shop is on various levels which allows us to provide a wide range of items for you. Mostly, we cater for knitting and crochet, but we have embroidery and tapestry threads, jewellery and beading supplies for your projects. Many of our customers appreciate the wide range of haberdashery available that they usually struggle to find.
Ground Floor
Here you can find Baby Yarn, Double Knit and Cottons from Stylecraft, Rico, King Cole and Sirdar. Plus a wide range of Hand Dyed yarns. The knitting and crochet ranges from Knitpro, Addi and Clover are in a separate area. In addition, this is where you will be able to browse the sewing and haberdashery accessories from Hemline, Trimmit and threads from Gutterman. The DMC embroidery threads and various cross stitch kits with tapestry threads from Anchor are located on this level along with a colourful range buttons and ribbons.
There are the patterns for Baby, Children and Adult double knitting plus a couple of chairs and a table so you can relax when browsing for the one that you want to use for your project.
First Floor
This where you will find the Stylecraft Special range for Double Knit, Aran and Chunky weight together with patterns for your projects. In addition, we have similar yarns from Rico, King Cole, James Brett, Wendy and Sirdar that contain more natural fibres. If you are interested in yarn made from recycled product or vegan friendly this can also be found here. Also, the Jewellery making items, repair and bag handles and press studs are on this level.
The most important item on this floor is a large table where our various knitting, crochet and other courses are held and where you can come along for craft and make sessions and get together in informal groups.
Basement
This is where you find crafting items and pom poms for hats and is currently where the Christmas Crafty items are if you want to get started on your Festive projects early.
As you can see from the descriptions above, there is a lot to see in Crafty Corner but please just ask if you cannot find anything and we will let you know where it is and generally fetch get if for you if this is easier. Also, should there be a queue waiting to be served we will do our best to get you attended to as quickly as possible and we appreciate your patience.
I have put a little video to show you a quick shop tour, so you get an impression of the shop before you visit, and we hope to see you soon.
